About Insomnia
People with insomnia have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. They may also find that when they wake up they don't feel refreshed. According to the National Center for Sleep Disorders Research at the National Institutes of Health, about 30% to 40% of adults report having some symptoms of insomnia within a given year. Insomnia, when left untreated, can exacerbate other chronic health problems.
There are 3 types of insomnia:
- Sleep-onset insomnia: EDLUAR is indicated for this type of insomnia
- Sleep-maintenance insomnia: waking once or several times a night and finding it difficult to get back to sleep
- Early-awakening insomnia: waking early and staying awake without being able to get back to sleep
Insomnia can be:
- Transient: lasting a few nights
- Short-term: lasting up to 10 nights
- Chronic: lasting months to years
Symptoms of insomnia include:
- Trouble falling asleep
- Waking up often during the night
- Trouble returning to sleep after waking
- Waking up without feeling refreshed
- Daytime sleepiness
- Trouble concentrating during the day
What Causes Insomnia?
Insomnia that lasts for a short time can be caused by many different factors, including:
- Stress and anxiety
- Medications
- Certain foods and drinks that contain caffeine and alcohol
- Bright lights, loud noises, or extreme temperatures
- Travel to a different time zone
- Shift work
Chronic insomnia can be caused by physical illness or mental conditions. One of the most common causes of chronic insomnia is depression. EDLUAR is not indicated to treat depression.
EDLUAR should be only used to treat short-term sleep-onset insomnia.
